The last time some of our curriculum sheets were updated
Time to Update Your Curriculum Sheets!
Here's a message from Cori Nunez:
Another year's Catalog is coming!!! The window for correcting/changing and creating new curriculum sheets has begun. All curriculum Sheets are due to me by MARCH 1. This means that all the changes must be approved by your divisions and to the Articulation status in the C3MS by MARCH 1.
Editor's Note: Why update these sheets? Well, this is what students and counselors actually see, and they have a huge impact on whether students choose to enter your program. If a student says "Gee, I like ___", the counselor whips out this sheet and shows it to the student. The statement at the top is particularly important, as it's the primary "selling point" for your program. I will be happy to help you punch up the summary statement if you like.
Also, some of the classes listed as support courses/electives may no longer be offered for whatever reason, or your department just needs to rethink the degree/certificates in general. Here's a link to the history of your department's curriculum sheets: http://www.foothill.edu/fa/programs.php
Mardi Gras Hosted by Carol Josselyn
Mardi Gras is hosted by Carol Josselyn this week. Mardi Gras is much more than a free lunch - it's a chance to share some time with your colleagues.
We need hosts for February 16 and 23 - the sign up sheet is in the division office. Come on, step up! Thanks for your help.
Presidents Day(s) this Weekend
Don't forget, this coming weekend (February 12 - 15) is President's Day(s). Campus closed, no classes - enjoy the holiday!

The New Foothill Website
Our erstwhile webmaster, Lee Collings, Associate VP Kurt Hueg, along with a host of designers, committee folk, druids, and other folk have done a stellar job designing our new website!
I met with Lee last Thursday and we went through the Fine Arts Division sites. Right now you are thinking I am going to make some comment or joke, but I am well past that :-) As the person who initially designed the Fine Arts Website, along with the Music, Music Technology and IDEA Lab sites, I am keenly aware that my days of web design have passed, and my sites that were so doggone cool in 1998 now look like a fashion statement from, well, 1998. I am at peace with this :-)
Here's what - our website is our first point of contact with prospective students. Long before a student actually contacts you or shows up in a counselor's office, they have been to our website. It behooves all of us to participate in creating a site for our individual programs that makes students WANT to come here first, not just consider us. If you would like to meet to create some new content for your site, or want to know what's going to happen, please email me for an appointment or just drop by the office.
How To Avoid Class Cancellations
What? You don't want your class cancelled due to low enrollment? You can avoid even worrying about it by having your continuing students enroll during regular registration, which begins March 8 for continuing students. My advice is to not even mention late enrollment, because if you say "We really need you to enroll during regular registration, but if there are any seats available, you can add through week 2", what they hear is "Don't worry about registration, the class cannot be cancelled, you are guaranteed a seat, and you will get an A".
Dean On Jury Duty
I have been called for jury duty beginning Monday, February 8. If selected, I won't be around much until the conclusion of the trial, so if you have forms you need signed, etc. be sure to give them to Sindy and she can either give them to Richard, or I can drop by when possible.
It's a sign of how stressful the atmosphere has been around here that when I got the notice, my first thought was "Jury duty! Cool!" :-)
Penny's Memorial Service Wednesday, Feb. 10 at Noon
Our college community suffered a tremendous loss Dec. 31 with the passing of Penny Patz, Ed.D. She ably served Foothill College in several administrative positions from 1989 through 2007. Her most recent position was as interim president during 2006-2007 after which she retired. Shortly after her retirement, she was diagnosed with cancer and valiantly battled to maintain a quality of life amidst those she loved. Her courage and serenity were an inspiration and a reminder that time is a most precious gift. The on-campus service for Dr. Patz is Wednesday, Feb. 10, from 3 to 5 p.m. in Appreciation Hall (Room 1501). The service may be moved to the Smithwick for better seating.
Division Meeting February 24 at Noon.
Yes, I know I said we would not have another meeting this quarter and were going to concentrate on meeting at the departmental level, but President Miner has asked that we meet so she can hear from you regarding the Dean's position. Some of you might find this confusing, so let me explain.
I am an Interim Dean. An Interim Dean means the former Dean has taken another position, retired, walked away muttering with shoulders slumped or has otherwise exited and a Faculty or Staff member is taking the heat until a new Dean is targeted. There is also a category called an Acting Dean, which would be if the Dean was on leave and needed someone to take care of the shop in their absence. This position begs the obvious joke, "You're a better actor than you are a Dean", which of course, would come from your friends. That's what friends are for, after all.
Because these are extraordinary times, there is the option that the College would not fill the position, and we could be absorbed by another division, kind of like being absorbed into the Body of Landru from the original Star Trek (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZYTkSFRmKzM), which was better than the new Star Trek with Captain Picard, by the way.
If you have a class during the scheduled time (noon in Appreciation Hall) on the 24th, or have a pre-existing commitment that you are taking personal leave for, please take a moment to email me with your opinion on this very important matter concerning our future, so I can share it with the President and your colleagues at the meeting. As always, this meeting is required for all full time faculty, and optional for part time faculty and staff.
Have An Item?
If you have an item for the TT, send it to me at andersonmark@foothill.edu. I have deleted the tt@foothillmusictech.com, since most of you just sent your items to me directly, anyway :-)
